Cautions: Some people will experience feeling wired and an inability to sleep as well. Symptoms may be similar to excess caffeine ingestion. If this happens, cut the dosage or just take it with breakfast.

All medical studies with oral Oxymatrine were done with dosages between 600 and 900 mg daily. We heartily recommend that you stay within the dosage parameters of this concentrated alkaloid unless you weigh more than 200 pounds.

We have seen two cases of overdose, one intentional, the other where the dosage of two different medicines were mixed up and 32 capsules of Oxymatrine were ingested in a day.

In the first case a hepatitis patient increased the dosage on his own in an attempt to eradicate the virus. At about 2000 mg daily his kidneys felt dehydrated and he lowered the dose back down. His symptoms subsided when he lowered the dose with no negative after-effect.

The second case was more serious. At 6400 mg daily the patient (a female) felt very manic and anxious, became dehydrated and began vomiting. She went to the hospital emergency ward where she was given fluids and sent home. She felt very anxious for a day or two afterward and was then fine. A hepatic panel done after she recovered indicated that she’d returned to normal.

In both cases there were no toxic long term effects.

What it Does/How it Works:

Oxymatrine is derived from the chinese herb kushen, or Radix Sophorae. This formula is a 50- to-1 extact, meaning it takes 500 kilos of the raw material to make a kilo of oxymatrine.  Different oxymatrines that are marketed are often 20% compounds, whereas the proprietary Dragon Heart / Alchemist Lab oxymatrine is closer to a pure alkaloid. Our independent analysis showed oxymatrine concentrations of between 88% and 96% in different batches.

There is this concept suggesting that people not take oxymatrine for longer than a year. We believe that this came from the fact that there have been no medical studies that had a longer framework than a year. We see no rational to discontinue use. Often times we see our best results in liver enzyme reduction after a significant period of use.

Oxymatrine is a very versatile compound effective in diseases ranging from fungal and parasitic infections, cancer, arrhythmias, skin problems and others. At Alchemist Lab we have used it mostly for chronic hepatitis. It is particulary good for those patients with significant fatigue from progressive liver damage. If we had to use a single product to fight hepatitis as a stand alone treatment it would be oxymatrine.

Starting in 1998, studies with both injectable as well as oral doses of Oxymatrine have been done on chronic hepatitis. Dosage range in the various studies were between 600mg and 900mg daily. Treatment time varied from 3 to 12 months in all the published studies.

Summary of Study Results:

The rates of seroconversion for HBV infection average over 40% in a myriad of studies. Normalization of enzymes occurred in around 70% of Hepatitis C patients. In studies of non-viral Hepatitis, an anti-fibrotic effect was found on repeat biopsy.
